Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)
at Camp Cedars
This one-and-a-half-day course is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for Cub Scout Leaders interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities. BSA's Cub Scout level camping policies will be taught along with the necessary tools to help your unit carry out a successful camping experience. ANY Pack overnighter (not including District or Council sponsored events) REQUIRES A MINIMUM OF ONE adult participant who has completed BALOO training to be present at all times.
BALOO training consists of an ONLINE PREREQUISITE component in addition to an overnight hands-on practical portion. The online pre-requisite portion MUST be completed prior to attending the in-person portion of the training. See the attachment for how to navigate to the pre-requisite course. BALOO will be held at Camp Cedars, Cedar Bluffs, NE, in Heritage Lodge.

- Personal camping gear is required to participate in BALOO. Required items include: • Medical Form A&B • Glasses/contacts/personal medication as needed • Backpack, duffle bag, or sports equipment bag for personal belongings • Tent, 2 ground cloths (1 inside & 1 underneath), sleeping bag & pad/mattress, pillow • Clothes suitable for the weather, 1 change of clothes, sleeping attire, sturdy shoes • Drinking cup and mess kit (plate, bowl, eating utensils) • Soap, washcloths, towel, personal toiletries • Sunglasses • Camp chair • Cell phone – fully charged • Watch, pocketknife, and the Cub Scout Six essentials for Camping: 1. First Aid Kit. 2. Water Bottle filled with water. 3. Flashlight. 4. Trail Food. 5. Sun Protection. 6. Whistle.
