Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation Specifics Training

What/Who? This one and one-half day course is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for those leaders (Cubmasters, Ass’t. Cubmasters, Den leaders, other pack leaders, and parents) who are interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities. BALOO is an instructor-led course that is conducted at the Council level. BSA's Cub Scout level camping policies will be taught along with the necessary tools to help units carry out a successful camping experience.
Why? Every youth deserves a trained leader! All Cub Scout Leaders. BALOO training is required for a Cub leader to take the Pack on an overnight trip. BALOO Training is a fun-filled overnight program of hands-on skill training designed to help Cub Leaders to take their Packs on overnight campouts. For a Pack to run an overnight program, it is required that at least one leader be BALOO trained.
When/Where? Friday-Saturday, May 1st - 2nd, 2026. 500 E Topeka, Whitewater, KS 67154. The weekend will begin with a 6:00 pm Check-In Friday evening. The class begins promptly at 7:00 pm. We plan to conclude by 6:00 PM Saturday.
Cost? $20 per person. Refunds are not available but may be transferred to another leader.
Saturday meals will be provided!
Registration? The deadline to reserve a seat for the class will be 5:00 PM Fri, April 24th, 2026.
Registration is online only, any registration requests after this date will require an additional $10 fee. The registration link may be found on the http://www.quivira.org/training.
Prerequisites? All participants must be a registered adult leader, must complete the 35-minute online BALOO prerequisite and Hazardous Weather on my.scouting.org. Please bring proof of this training when attending the outdoor portion. BSA Learn Center
What to Bring? You will receive a detailed welcome letter the week before the course!
Insurance? Liability, as well as Sickness and Accident Insurance, are provided for all registered BSA members of Quivira Council.
