Scouts BSA NOVA Day 2020

Earn the Splash! NOVA!!!

Join the experts at the Saint Louis Science Center to earn the Splash! NOVA Award!

Scouts will spend the day working, creating, and problem solving as they earn the NOVA Award. 

NOVA cards will be distributed. Attending the event does not guarantee that the Scouts will earn the awards. A parent, guardian, scout leader, or other responsible adult who knows each scout must stay onsite during the event to help supervise.

NOVA Award Prerequisites

Watch 2 of the 3 hours of science related shows for Requirement 1A and make a list of 5 questions (see below).
The final hour we will do at the Science Center.

1) A. Watch about three hours total of science-related shows or documentaries that discuss water as it relates to the hydrologic cycle, primary sources, primary users (including wildlife), health, sources of pollution, waste treatment, and related sciences and technologies. Then do the following:

(1) Make a list of at least five questions or ideas from the show(s) you watched.

(2) Discuss two of the questions or ideas with your counselor.

Weather Merit Badge prerequisites: 

9a: Scouts should come with a weather instrument they’ve made and a completed daily weather log for the Merit Badge Counselor to check.

** Lunch is not provided. Scouts will need to bring their own lunch to this event. Food can be purchased onsite at the cafeteria.**


SPACE IS LIMITED TO 60 SCOUTS 
REGISTRATION CLOSES ON March 9th.
Unfortunately we cannot accept late registrations or day of event walk-ins.

Free parking over at Planetarium off of Clayton Ave. in Forest Park. There is a fee if you park in main lot off of Oakland. Head to the main lobby in the Science Center on the 1st floor to get registered (not in Planetarium).

NOVA DAY Rules and Regulations:
• All attending Scouters (Adults and Youth) should be in field uniform for the event.
• Two registered event leaders or approved parents from each Pack are required to supervise Scouts and required to stay on Center campus at all times. If a single Scout comes from a Pack, a parent can serve as their supervision.
• Attending leaders/parents will need to fill out the 'Additional Guest Names' section.
• Scouts will follow the buddy system when touring the Center.
• NO food or drink is allowed in the classrooms.
• Parking is available for free at the Planetarium in Forest Park.
• Parents should be be prompt when dropping off and picking up Scouts at the Planetarium entrance.
• Scout Law and Oath - We are guests of the St. Louis Science Center. We are privileged, to be able to use this facility. Please be respectful to buildings and classrooms. Each Scout should conduct themselves in the true spirit of the Scout Law, Scout Oath, and the Outdoor Code. Please practice “leave no trace” during your visit.
• NO electronic devices allowed!! This is a learning environment. All cell phones should be placed on vibrate or turned off.
• The Saint Louis Science Center is not responsible for accidents or damaged or lost property.
