Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS) "Skills Blitz" Intensive - Pine Ridge

Cost: $15.00 (This fee covers a high-quality patrol lunch, morning coffee, all program materials, and training recognition)(Registration closes May 27, 2026.)
Description: Master the outdoor skills necessary for the Scouts BSA program in this high-impact, 12-hour "Skills Blitz." This course is strictly aligned with the Scouting America Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) syllabus, providing the practical woodcraft and wilderness knowledge required from Tenderfoot through First Class ranks.
By operating in a Patrol Method environment within the beautiful Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge, you will complete a comprehensive "Survival Chain" of skills:
- Mindset & Prep: Start the day with Interfaith Worship and a deep dive into Outdoor Ethics and Packing & Hiking techniques.
- The Trek: Hands-on Finding Your Way navigation fieldwork followed by a 90-minute Discovery Hike to identify local plants and animals.
- Sustainment: Mastery of Woods Tools (Knife, Axe, Saw) leading directly into Fire Site Prep and a Patrol Method Lunch.
- Campcraft: Intensive sessions on Ropes (Knots & Lashings) and Campfire Program Instruction.
Who should attend: This course is required for all Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters to be considered "Position Trained." It is also highly recommended for Cub Scout leaders, Venturing Crew Advisors, and any registered adult volunteer looking to bolster their outdoor skill set.
Required for Check-in:
- Scouting America Annual Health & Medical Record: Parts A & B are mandatory.
- Uniforming: Please arrive in Field Uniform (Class A) for the opening and closing ceremonies. Bring your Activity Uniform (Class B/T-shirt) for the skills sessions.
- Gear: Bring a daypack with a water bottle, mess kit (plate/cup/utensils), compass, rain gear, and your Scout Handbook. (A full packing list will be provided upon registration).
Note: Please eat a hearty breakfast before the 6:30 AM opening.
