Camp Tahquitz: Making Memories Since 1925

For more than a century, the Long Beach Area Council, Scouting America, has delivered one of the premier camping and outdoor programs in the country. Camp Tahquitz, our crown jewel in the San Bernardino Mountains, has one simple goal: Making Memories for every Scout who walks through our gates.

A Square Mile of Mountain Wilderness

The Long Beach Area Council is fortunate to own a full square mile of land at 6,500 feet elevation, where giant ponderosa pines tower over rolling green meadows and the air is clean and cool all summer long. With traditions dating back to 1925, Camp Tahquitz has served thousands of youth from the greater Long Beach area and surrounding councils. Thanks to careful stewardship, large sections of the property remain in their natural state, preserved for the Scouts of today and generations to come.

Perched on the edge of the San Gorgonio Wilderness Area, camp offers spectacular views of the peaks above and the valley below, abundant birds and wildlife, and gateway access to challenging backcountry hikes through some of Southern California's most magnificent terrain.

Facilities & Program

Beyond the classic camp essentials of dining hall, shooting ranges, pool, and lake, Tahquitz features secluded outpost camps, a wide-ranging orienteering course, a COPE course, a climbing wall, and four historic log cabins lovingly preserved and adapted as program centers.

Our program offers something for every Scout: archery, rifle, and shotgun shooting; horsemanship; handicraft; outdoor skills; hiking; nature studies; and much more. Whatever your Scouts are excited about, they'll find it here.

A Staff That Makes the Difference

Ask anyone who's been to Tahquitz and they'll tell you: our greatest asset is our staff. Every member of our youth staff belongs to the Tahquitz Community and volunteers to serve at summer camp out of genuine dedication to Scouting and a desire to help other Scouts learn and grow. Chosen for their outstanding character and abilities, they have been planning and training since September, and most Area Directors are graduates of National Camping School. Their only goal is to serve your troop and make this the best summer camp experience your Scouts have ever had.

Getting Here

Camp Tahquitz sits on California Highway 38, just 26 miles beyond Redlands, about a two-hour drive from Long Beach. A paved road leads from the highway right into central camp.
