GNYC Firearms Instructor Training 2026

The Range & Target Activities Committee of Greater New York Councils, in cooperation with members of its Range & Target Sports Association, is pleased to announce its 18th Annual Firearms Instructor Training Weekend.

Cost: $375 for the weekend
Payment is due February 10, 2026.
*If working on TMR camp staff this summer contact us.
*This does not include your NRA certification fee, which is minimal and paid directly to the NRA.

The in person training weekend will be offered on March 6th - 8th, which will lead to becoming an NRA certified Shotgun Instructor. A Basic Instructor Training Course (BIT), which is required for all new instructors, and instructors who have not taken a BIT course within the last two years, will also be conducted on this weekend.

Additionally, we will be conducting, as required by the NRA, a “Basic Shotgun” course via Zoom prior to our in person weekend. This training is mandatory to become an instructor.

Mandatory Zoom Meetings for Shotgun Training
Feb 22nd & 28th @ 8am = Shotgun Sessions (4hrs each - both mandatory)

Our In Person Training Weekend will be hosted at Ten Mile River Scout Camps.

When you turn into camp proceed to the Health Lodge for check-in.

Important Notes:
1. LIVE AMMUNITION IS NOT ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM OR IN ANY CABINS.
2. You must be 15 years or older to participate. Anyone under 21 years of age will be considered an assistant/apprentice in their selected discipline.
3. You must bring an AB medical with you to TMR.
4. All participants must be U.S. citizens as per the Internation Traffic Arms Regulations (ITAR) of 1976. Also see ATF-E form 4437 (Aug. 2023)
