Scouters Are Brave. Always Willing To Go On A New Adventure Or To Undertake A New Task. The SLC In Dubai Will Give You The Tools To Do Just That!

The 2024 Scouting Leadership Conference (SLC) will be held over the October 25-27th weekend at The American School of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The Scouting Leadership Conference (SLC) training event for adult and youth leaders offered by the Transatlantic Council is designed to supplement the educational experience of any Scout leader. The American School of Dubai- one of our Chartered Organizations- has graciously offered to host this year’s Conference in their facilities.  

SLC 2024 is open to all Scout Leaders, Youth Leaders, Chartered Organizations, and parents within the Transatlantic Council. Adults may register to attend any class regardless of program designation, except the Youth Leadership classes. The classes offered provide skills for first-time leaders to experienced leaders.

This year discussions will range from how to keep the fun in Scouting to all the “need to know” while Scouting in the overseas environment. Courses will be held on Saturday the 26th, with topics focusing on support of Cub Scouting, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and other Scouting programs. There are offerings for both adult leaders and youth leaders. Refer to the listing of class offerings and schedule on the registration page to see what is being offered. 

Event highlights

LEADER INSTRUCTION
Classes in every program area to enhance your Scouting leadership, with a few being taught by some of our exceptional Youth Leadership!  Additional classes will be added as we get closer to the conference.

TRADING POST PRE-ORDERS
As an offer to conference attendees, you can pre-order from the Program Supply Center any personal or unit supply needs and schedule them for pick up at the conference. (The mobile unit will be limited by the weight limits of airline travel.) Advancement items such as belt loops, pins, ranks, merit badges, etc. are only available through pre-order. The window for Pre-Orders closes October 11th

INSTRUCTING

ADDITIONALLY:
The Council Annual Meeting will be held from 1600 to 1700 (local time) on Saturday the 26th. All SLC attendees are invited to attend.

After SLC classes are done, join us at the Council Recognition Dinner on Saturday evening. In addition to other awards, the highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Silver Beaver Awards. This is the highest award that a local council can bestow for volunteer service within the council and to the Boy Scouts of America. Scout uniform or casual business dress is appropriate attire. The event is held offsite at the Media Rotana hotel which is a short walk from the American School of Dubai.

FAMILIES
While you are attending SLC, please consider bringing the rest of the family to explore the environs of the Dubai area. Take time to enjoy and see the sights of what the area has to offer. The SLC committee is putting together possible outings for family members who are not attending the seminar for Friday night and Sunday morning.

LODGING
We will reserve a block of rooms at the Media Rotana Hotel for those who wish to stay there. (This is the same hotel where the Council Recognition Dinner will be held.) The room rate for a double is approximately $167 per night. Individual guests may contact the hotel by sending an email to groups.media@rotana.com to facilitate booking their own room.  After 31 August, rooms will be released back to the public.  There are also numerous other hotels in the vicinity that may offer rates and accommodations to fit your needs if you so desire.

VISAS
The UAE has visas upon arrival. If you are a passport holder of these countries, no advance visa arrangements are required to visit the UAE. Simply disembark your flight at Dubai International and proceed to immigration, where your passport will be stamped with a 30‑day visit visa free of charge.

AIRPORT TRANSFERS
Airport transfers can be arranged through the Media Rotana Hotel. See the event guide for more details.

EVENT FEES
Registrants are able to purchase a combined SLC and Council Recognition Dinner ticket for $105.00. Fees include a light reception on Friday, an available Saturday breakfast, Saturday lunch and snacks, a full day of SLC training, and the recognition dinner. 

 Additional tickets for the Council Recognition Dinner can be purchased for $55 per person. Youth tickets (ages 12 and under) are $35 per person.
