Edelweiss District Fall Switzerland training weekend 2026

Event Details

4 to 6 September 2026

BALOO and IOLS at KISC!

We hope to offer both courses below, this is depending on registrations and staff availability!

The Edelweiss District is excited to provide two critical Outdoor Leader trainings for Cub Scout and Scouts BSA adult leaders.  Our team is ready for you to join us in this experience and embark on a transformative learning experience that will empower you as a Scout leader like never before to bring quality Scouting to the youth in your units!

Regardless of your experience in the outdoors, both trainings provide you the knowledge and skills to provide fun, safe, and challenging experiences at age-appropriate levels for the youth within Scouting America’s policies.

BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation)

Welcome to BALOO training! It is the Cub Scout leader training required for any Cub Scout outdoor event to include overnight events. At least one BALOO-trained leader should be at any overnighter regardless of whether it is a pack, district or council event, including Webelos den and AOL patrol overnighters.

BALOO training has two components—an online component and a practical, hands-on component. Both components must be completed to qualify as a “TRAINED” Cub Scout outdoor leader.

Online Training Prerequisite:

The online component must be completed prior to the practical component. The online training contains introductory and basic information that will be built upon during the practical training. To start your training:

  • Create or log into your my.scouting.org account
  • Click on Menu > My Training
  • Under Training Courses by Program, select Expanded Learning
  • Under Expanded Learning, select BALOO and Take Course

IOLS (Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills)

Welcome to Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills training. The Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) course builds and expands on the concepts and themes introduced in Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training and provides Scouters with the confidence to take youth into the outdoors.

Specifically, this hands-on program gives adult leaders a practical introduction to the patrol method of a Scout-led troop by teaching many of the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. In addition, the teaching methods, activities, and games model the variety of teaching used in effective and engaging Scouting programs.

Training Fee

The cost TBD and will include all training materials for your course and meals Friday night through Sunday midday departure.

Event check-in will begin at 17:30 Friday evening.  See the BALOO or IOLS info sheets for guidance on what to prepare for course.
