Location: Ten Mile River Scout Camps (1481 Crystal Lake Road, Narrowsburg NY) - Health Lodge
Fee: The cost of our weekend for adults will be $375. Payment is due February 2, 2025. If working on TMR camp staff this summer please
contact us. Students are required to pay their NRA certification fees, which are not included in the course fee ($35). This you pay directly to the NRA. You can become a member by logging onto the NRA instructor web site at: nrainstructors.org.
Description: The Range & Target Activities Committee of Greater New York Council’s, in cooperation with members of its Range & Target Sports Association, is pleased to announce its 18th annual Firearms Instructor Training Weekend.Training will lead to becoming an NRA certified Rifle or Shotgun Instructor. A Basic Instructor Training Course (BIT), which is required for all new instructors, and instructors who have not
taken a BIT course within the last two years, will also be conducted on these weekends.
Additionally, we will be conducting, as required by the NRA, a Basic Rifle OR Shotgun course, via Zoom presentations prior to our weekend.
This training is mandatory to become an instructor.
Our classroom training will be conducted in the Health Lodge. This is also where some of you will bunk, and all of our meals, with the exception of our Saturday night banquet, will be served.
Other information:
- You will also need to complete the attached “Firearms Instructor Training Registration Form.” This information is required in order to
sign you up with the NRA for this training. - While this training is available to all, slots are limited. First priority will be given to those adults scheduled to serve as a Range & Target Activities Director, or an Assistant Instructor, on a summer camp staff. Those individuals not selected to attend this
training, due to lack of space, will receive a full refund. - Our training is conducted rain or shine so come prepared. Be prepared for mud.
- You’ll be bunking in the Health Lodge, or one of the other camp cabins. But you’ll need to bring the basics, ie, sleeping bag or a blanket and sheets, a pillow, and a wash kit. Dress is casual. Scout uniforms are not required.
- It is suggested that you arrive in camp on Friday night.
- If taking BIT training will start at 5pm Friday.
- Instructor training will begin at 8am on Saturday.
- LIVE AMMUNITION IS NOT ALLOWED in the classroom, or any of the cabins.
Additional Requirements / Restrictions:
- Bring a copy of the BSA Medical Form A,B, and bring to camp. Note: Doctor’s signature on medical form not required. Do not email this.
- Minimum age to attend this training is 15 years of age.
- All candidates must be U.S. Citizens. As per (ITAR) International Traffic Arms Regulations of 1976.
