Hello everyone!

Please join us for the third annual Merit Badge Academy here at Deerfield High School. Bring your troop, patrols, and more to this Merit Badge Academy!

The cost is $15 per scout to attend both days. This means that a scout can earn up to two-three merit badges for $15 if he or she completes the prerequisites outlined below for each merit badge (Pre-Requisites coming soon!)

Citizenship in Society

Be prepared to share with the group the following: 1) Research an individual you feel has demonstrated positive leadership while having to make an ethical decision. 2) Identify and interview an individual in your community, school, and/or Scouting who has had a significant positive impact in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion(or if you feel your community, school, or local Scouting group does not have such an

individual, then research a historical figure who meets these criteria). 3) Research an event that had a positive outcome on how society viewed a group of people and made them feel more welcome

Communications

At the clinic, please be prepared and ready to introduce yourself (see requirement 2(a)), give a five-minute speech (see requirement 3), and teach another Scout a skill or inform him or her about something (see requirement 6). Prerequisites to complete Communication are requirements 4, 5, and 7. We’ll discuss what Scouts did to complete requirements 4, 5, and 7 at the clinic. If Scouts have planned and lead a court of honor, campfire program, or interfaith service, please be ready to share what you did; if not, we can consider conducting an interfaith worship service at the clinic (requirement 8).

Citizenship in the Nation

Prerequisites to complete Citizenship in the Nation are requirements 5, 6, 7, and 8. We’ll discuss what Scouts did to complete these requirements at the clinic. Reading the merit badge pamphlet will help ensure Scouts are ready to engage in a good discussion.
