NYLT - National Youth Leadership Training 2023

Event Details

A long time ago, in a camp far, far away (or not) …..

Course Dates: July 30 - August 4, 2023

Location: Mount Norris Scout Reservation Course Space is Limited!

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting and powerful program designed to provide members of Scouts BSA with leadership skills and experience they can use to lead themselves and others throughout their lives. To participate in this outdoor experience Scouts, Venturers, and Explorers must be at least 13 or older and have a unit leader recommendation. Scouts BSA youth must be at least First Class and have completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troop.

NYLT is a six-day course, delivered in a troop and patrol outdoor setting with an emphasis on learning in a fun environment, with concepts and work processes being introduced early, built upon, and aided by the use of memory aids, which allows participants to understand and develop leadership skills much faster.

In 2023, we will again be modeling the Scouts BSA linked troop and patrol model with a male troop and a female troop, lead by a same gender Scoutmaster and SPL. Learning will be conducted together, but separated for patrol activities and camping.

Every day is filled with activity. The concepts of what a leader must BE , must KNOW , and must DO are taught, demonstrated, and lived in the out of doors. Immediate use of new ideas is stressed in a fun atmosphere based on the principles of Scouting. Everything we do is applicable to unit leadership back home. The days are very full.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF NYLT?

The purpose of NYLT is to support the Unit training of the youth leaders. The objectives of the course are to:

  • Provide a toolbox of leadership skills
  • Demonstrate how these skills will help leading their unit
  • Instill knowledge and confidence to run the unit program
  • Enhance the relationship between the Scout and the unit
  • Connect, share ideas and experiences with other Scouts
  • Experience Scouting at its best
  • Have fun!
