Event Overview:
Calling all Scouts BSA Troops!
Join us at Camp Perkins for an exciting program focused on outdoor skills, tool safety, and woodcraft mastery. The Paul Bunyan Award, also known as the Paul Bunyan Woodsman Award, recognizes Scouts who demonstrate advanced proficiency and safety in the use of woods tools.
Scouts will learn and demonstrate skills in the identification, safety, maintenance, and storage of nine basic wood tools. First aid related to tool usage will be covered, and Totin’ Chip training will be available for those who have not yet earned it.
Older Scouts will have the opportunity to teach and mentor younger Scouts, and adult volunteers are needed to supervise tool training and assist with event coordination.
Award Requirements:
To earn the Paul Bunyan Award, Scouts must complete the following:
Earn the Totin’ Chip – Demonstrate understanding of safe wood tool use.
Demonstrate Skills – Show proficiency and safety in handling wood tools.
Complete a Woodsman Work Project, such as:
Clearing trails or fire lanes for at least two hours.
Trimming and cutting downed trees into manageable lengths.

Upon completion, Scouts will receive a Paul Bunyan Award patch and a pocket certificate commemorating their achievement.
