Basic Adult Leadership Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)

BALOO is a leader training for all Cub Scout Leaders and parents that want to be ready for outdoor activities.  

“At least one adult on a pack overnighter must have completed Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation” - Guide to Safe Scouting 

BALOO is highly recommended for all Cub Scout Leaders, and it is an optional requirement for a Den Leader if you are working on your Den Leader Training Award knot. This training will be a hands-on training experience for Cub Scout Leaders.  

IOLS – Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills for BSA Scout Troops

October 3–4, 2026 | Sunland Park

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) is a hands-on training course designed to give Scouts BSA leaders the practical outdoor skills needed to confidently lead Scouts in the outdoors.

Participants will learn and practice essential Scoutcraft and outdoor leadership skills in an outdoor setting. The course focuses on learning by doing, giving leaders the opportunity to experience the skills they can then teach and use with their Scouts.

Topics will include camping, outdoor cooking, fire safety, pioneering, navigation, first aid, knots, and other essential outdoor skills.

Participants should come prepared to spend time outdoors and participate in hands-on activities throughout the training.
