2026 Fall Camporee Rendezvous Kirtland

Event Details

Welcome to the Kirtland Camporee! We are fortunate to have formed a partnership with Kirtland Air Force Base personnel and the High Desert Council to bring a fall camporee program back to our council calendar, and hope that its success will continue this partnership in the future. A big weekend is planned for Scouts and Scouters. All Scouts BSA Troops, Teams, Venture Crews, & Arrow of Light Scouts are invited. This year’s theme is "Survival". The theme will be represented in merit badge opportunities as well as demonstrations by specialty units (TBA - Watch for updates). Units who would like to take it a bit further are encouraged to bring a skit, song, or saga to perform at the Saturday evening gathering. The Fall Camporee will be held at Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB). This is a great opportunity for unit camping, patrol development, Arrow of Light Recruitment, and Inter-unit Fellowship. Units will also earn partial merit badge for Wilderness Survival!

  • Everyone needs to bring Health forms A and B- Adults and youth
  • Units need to have YPT/SYT and Hazardous Weather Training current.
  • AOL youth staying overnight need to have a BALOO trained adult

Units preparing for the COMPETITIONS at this event will need to do some advanced planning.  Note that kits, signals, and shelters will be evaluated based upon content, structure, and verbal explanations.  Shy scouts get ready to join up in buddy teams to balance skills.

1.) Requirement 5 is a personal survival kit.  Scouts may create these and explain their use in buddy teams / one kit per two scouts.

2.) Requirement 7 ground to air signals (one per scout unit) - Units may need to bring NATIVE NATURAL elements  to create their unit signals.

3.) Requirement 8 improvise a natural shelter - We are camping in an open desert area similar to MANY areas in our state.  The base will not allow us to venture off into the arroyo to collect brush, etc.  Scouts may bring native desert flora for shelter building.  Tarps and shovels are also strongly recommended.  An understanding of trench shelters and double-roof tarp shelters is strongly encouraged.

4.) UNIT SPIRIT !! - Wear your buff at all times (provided at check in).  Carry and manage/ guard unit flag at all times. Create an event specific flag!! Show enthusiasm and teamwork in all challenges TBA.

Tribal Councils - No one gets "voted off the island"!  Each unit will begin with 100 points.  Units will be evaluated on each task.  The winning unit gets IMMUNITY.  Other units will go to "tribal council" where the council will vote which unit loses XX points for a given activity.

Immunity idols will be hidden in camp with clues provided throughout the weekend.  Units can use their idol at any tribal council.

Final Tribal Council and the grand prize will be at closing ceremony Sunday morning.  This is the carrot to camp as well as sleeping in the scout's survival shelter.
