Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS)/ Basic Adult Leadership Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)

IOLS training is required for Scoutmasters, Venturing Advisors and their assistants. This training is highly recommended for AOL Leaders, and it is an optional requirement for an AOL Leader if you are working on your Den Leader Training Award knot.  

Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First-Class rank.  

Along with Scoutmaster Specific Training, IOLS is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Scouts BSA Troops, in order to be considered "trained". 

BALOO is a leader training for all Cub Scout Leaders and parents that want to be ready for outdoor activities.  

“At least one adult on a pack overnighter must have completed Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation” - Guide to Safe Scouting 

BALOO is highly recommended for all Cub Scout Leaders, and it is an optional requirement for a Den Leader if you are working on your Den Leader Training Award knot. This training will be a hands-on training experience for Cub Scout Leaders.
