Memorial Day Flag Placement Information-Council Wide

There is an amazing opportunity for Flag Placement at the Headstones of America’s Heros. All volunteers are cordially invited to attend and assist at this Annual Community Event. And if you have never taken your scouts, it is amazing to watch and participate in this incredible event.
Leaders are expected to explain to their Scouts the reason for the Memorial Day Ceremony. The Scouts must be made aware of appropriate behavior while at the cemetery.
All Scouts and Adults must be in full Class A uniform including hats. Each unit, organization or group should bring their flags with them. Please bring water, sun protection, and sunscreen.
Supervision
All Scouting America units must have two-deep leadership in accordance with Youth Protection Guidelines. Adult supervision of all youth is required.
Fort Bliss National Cemetery: 5200 Fred Wilson Ave El Paso TX
May 22nd 6:30 AM Troop units only are needed to help set up the Flag Alley. The flags are very large.
May 23rd Registration open at 7:30 AM Opening ceremony at 8:00 AM for all. Flag Placement begins at 8:30 AM until done. Please come early as parking is limited.
May 25th Memorial Day Ceremony begins promptly at 9:00 AM
May 30th Flag pick up starting at 8:00 AM all volunteers are welcome and needed.

Placement: Sunday, May 24, 1-3 PM
Wear your Class A uniform if you have one.
For over 30 years, Troop 285 has honored our veterans by placing a small American flag on the graves of our veterans. Cub Scout packs and families invited. This is a great civics lesson for all ages. Refreshments afterwards.

May 25th: 10 AM Ceremony
May 23rd: 8:00 AM Flag Placement begins, the cemetery recommends coming early for parking.

May 17, 2026, Sunday, at 2:00 PM we will be placing over 500 American flags at the Historic Fairview Cemetery for Memorial Day.
Pickup day will be on May 31, 2026, Sunday, at 2:00 PM. Please join Roadrunner Post 10763 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Scout Troop 9
and other Scouts in placing American Flags and clean up at the Historic Fairview Cemetery. Historic Fairview Cemetery, est. 1881 in
Albuquerque, NM, is run by a nonprofit organization, located at 700 Yale Blvd. SE, Albuquerque and is just north of the newer
cemetery. To reach the Historic Fairview Cemetery: from the intersection of Avenida Cesar Chavez SE and Yale Blvd. SE
go north on Yale Blvd. SE to the first gate on the east side of Yale Blvd. SE, enter the newer cemetery and proceed East to a road
going North on the west side of a building, go north past the building and take the left road into the Historic Fairview Cemetery.
