Merit Badge Tuesday at GOLS

Merit Badge Tuesday at GOLS is a merit badge class that is offered once a month from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Classes and Cost vary by date. See below for the full schedule.
Tuesday, September 22nd - Cycling Merit Badge
Cost $10. Maximum of 14 participants.
"Bike Maintenance & Safety Class"
Do you have what it takes to earn the cycling merit badge? Do you like to bike? Do you want to get an optional Eagle Required Merit Badge (swimming, hiking, or cycling)? Are you at least 13 years old (exceptions have been made in the past for avid cyclists that are fit)? Age is not a requirement for the merit badge but experience has shown this merit badge is best for those Scouts that are a little older. Learn basic group riding edict. Learn basic bike maintenance. Learn how to change a tire. Learn about hydration and nutrition for endurance sports.
Tuesday, October 13th - First Aid Merit Badge
Cost is $15. Maximum of 15 participants.
You must have already completed First Class Rank. All materials will be provided, however it is encouraged that the scout build a home first aid kit and bring it with him/her to class. Topics include Wounds & Fractures, CPR, & Safety & First Aid.
Tuesday, November 17th - Cooking Merit Badge
Cost is $35. Maximum of 12 participants.
We offer classes that are 3 hours in duration, where Scouts prepare all recipes from scratch. We include all food, supplies, aprons, drinks and 1-2 Chef Instructors who make cooking educational and fun! Our Scouts will prepare 4 BSA approved recipes that can be used in a kitchen setting and modified for a campfire environment. We will go through the entire process of creating the shopping list to plating.
Boiling & Baking Technique: Baked Macaroni & Cheese
Simmering: Marinara Sauce from scratch
Pan Frying: Chicken Parmigiana
Microwave: TV Dinner
In addition to cooking these 4 recipes, we will discuss and review kitchen & food safety, knife skills and other portions of the workbook.
Tuesday, December 1st - Environmental Science Merit Badge
Cost is $15. Maximum of 18 participants.
The environmental science merit badge takes concepts of nature and ecology to the next level. Through discussions, experiments, and research, Scouts learn how their decisions and daily lives impact the environment and natural world around them. Environmental stewardship and consciousness are necessities that all youth should learn about in order to be productive members of society. Environmental science or sustainability merit badge are interchangeable for Eagle Scout rank requirements. Scouts should be prepared to think and share ideas with the others in the class. Environmental Science takes thinking out of the box to think of ways to address environmental impacts and issues that are ongoing in our society. Scouts will learn about ecology and how things can be affected positively or negatively in the natural world around us.
