2020 50-Mile Canoe Trip

the Broad River Canoe Trip (BRCT) is a 5-day/4-night 50-mile canoe camping trip that is a new Palmetto Council High Adventure tradition! Spend a week on the river, prepare for Northern Tier, earn BSA's 50 Miler award, and test your canoeing, camping and fishing skills. We will cover 50 miles paddling the scenic Broad River from Broad River Greenway River Access to Woods Ferry Recreational Area. Located within the Palmetto council, this float trip is sure to be packed with adventure.

Program: You will canoe the river with certified staff. In addition to canoeing, fishing and low impact camping, Scouts can do several merit badges on the river, including Canoeing and parts of the Cooking, Camping and Wilderness Survival merit badges. Expect lots of fun and great campfires along the way.

Requirements: We recommend that Scout participants on the BRCT be at least 13 years old. The following are minimum requirements, which must be met in order to ensure a safe and fun experience.

1. Swimming Ability: All participants must pass the swimmer's test. The standard BSA Swimmer's Test will be used to classify swimmers and determine those eligible to go on canoe trips. All swim tests must be completed before arrival.
2. Canoe Handling Ability: Canoe trip participants do not have to be "experts" before starting out, however they should know the fundamentals of launching, paddling positions and strokes, general safety rules about wind and weather, loading and care of canoes, and canoeing safety.
3. Safety Afloat: All users of Council canoes should be trained in safety afloat. All participants must bring current BSA Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat cards. The courses are offered by the BSA Online Learning Center.

Crew Size: We recommend groups of 6-18 canoeists. Small or "partial" crews can be paired with other small crews. Combined crews from multiple units are welcome. Space is limited, so sign up early!

Dates: The Palmetto Council will be offering three trips.

1. July 8 - July 12
2. July 29 - August 2
3. August 5 - August 9

Cost: Fees are all inclusive.
