WILDERNESS FIRST AID

What is wilderness first aid?

Wilderness first aid, or “WFA”, is a generic term that commonly refers to any training course that focuses on prevention, assessment, and treatment for an ill or injured person in a remote environment where definitive care by a physician and/or rapid transport is not readily available. This is defined as being an hour or more away from advanced care.  WFA courses are intended for anyone planning a remote high adventure, from lay responders to medical professionals.

The BSA has partnered with Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI) to design a blended learning format that combines 8-hours of online learning with 8-hours of in-person learning and skills testing.

PROIR TO THE IN-PERSON TRAINING - Participants must already be First Aid/CPR certified.  (A pre-requisite for the WFA Course)  Participants must complete the BSA Wilderness First Aid Navigate Course via the ECSI Website.  There is a cost of $40 for this online 8-Hour training, that will be at your own expense.  BSA WILDERNESS FIRST AID NAVIGATE COURSE

You will then need to e-mail your online Wilderness First Aid Navigate Course completion certificate AND First Aid/CPR certificate to mac@scouting.org BEFORE you can attend the 8-hour in-person & skills testing.
