STEM University UMSL 2019: Cub Scout College

Sponsored by: Greater Rivers Confluence Foundation, Toyota Bodine, Spire, Express Scripts & Victory Raceway.

Who: Cub Scouts and Scout leaders (No Lions or Tigers!)
When: Saturday, December 14, 2019
Time: 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Where: JC Penny Building, 1 University Blvd. Saint Louis, MO 63121
Park in West Drive garage.
Cost: $16.00 per youth and $10 per Leader/Adult. Includes: Lunch (pizza, soda, & cookies), STEM U patch, and program materials.

Payment: Mastercard, VISA and Discover. Payments and registration will only be accepted online.

Registration Deadline: Sunday, December 8, 2018 or when capacity reached.
 
NO late registrations or walk-ins. Out of Council Scouts are welcome to enroll.

This year Cub Scouts will be completing the NEW Cub Scouts Can Code NOVA (see requirements here: https://i9peu1ikn3a16vg4e45rqi17-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/CubsCanCode2019.pdf). 

At least 1 adult per Pack or per 5 Scouts must be present for the entirety of the event in case of emergencies.

Schedule of events:

Doors open at 8:45 a.m., Opening ceremonies at 9:15 a.m. in auditorium.
Session 1: 9:30 a.m. to 10:20 a.m.
Session 2: 10:30 a.m. to 11:20 a.m.
Session 3: LUNCH 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.
Session 4: 12:30 p.m. to 1:20 p.m.
Session 5: 1:30 p.m. to 2:20 p.m.
Session 6: 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Five round-robin sessions – 50 minutes long with 10 minutes travel time in between

Sessions will cover coding displays, activities, and videos to meet the requirements of the NOVA award. At the end of the day, the Scouts will receive their NOVA cards and event patches. (Note: we'll be using the alternative req. 2 rather than earning rank-specific Adventures)

***There will be a NOVA mentor training at 10:00 AM in the JCPenney building room 204 for anyone who is interested*** (tentative)

STEM University Rules and Regulations:
• All attending Scouters (Adults and Youth) should be in field uniform for the event. 
• Attending leaders/parents will need to register separately if they want lunch.
• Attending leaders may be assigned to a class or group to assist the instructor, and also help out as hall monitors. Any Scout caught wandering around during class time, will be sent home.
• NO food or drink is allowed in the classrooms.
• Parents should be reminded to be prompt when dropping off and picking up Scouts. 
• We are guests of the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). We are privileged, to be able to use this facility. Please be respectful to buildings and classrooms. Each Scout should conduct themselves in the true spirit of the Scout Law, Scout Oath, and the Outdoor Code. Please practice “leave no trace” during your visit. Each scout is responsible for keeping their assigned program area clean.
• Scouts and leaders are not authorized to utilize other classrooms or buildings, other than the ones designated. All classrooms are clearly marked.
• NO electronic devices allowed!! This is a learning environment. All cell phones should be placed on vibrate or turned off.
• UMSL is not responsible for accidents or for damaged or lost property.
