2020 Climbing Merit Badge In-Person
CLIMBING MERIT BADGE
Dates: Sep. 19, 26 & Oct 03.
Cost is $10, limit 12 Scout BSA scouts
Wear proper face covering for all 3 sessions.
Sep. 19 9am to 4pm at the Lucas Pavillion near the Scoutcraft Field at Beaumont Scout Reservation.
Sep. 26 & Oct 03 9am to 4pm, meet at Camp Vandeventer's main parking lot and we'll hike to the nearby climbing cliffs. Camp Vandeventer is only an easy 30 mile drive from the entrance to Beaumont and has the great cliffs we'll use for rappelling & climbing. If everyone does all the rappelling & climbing on Sep. 26 we may not need the Oct. 03 session. That's a lot of rappelling, climbing and belaying for 12 Scouts in 1 day so be ready to meet the 3rd day.
-Scout BSA members must bring a completed Medical Information Form, parts A & B when we meet on Sep. 19.
-You must read the Merit Badge book, hard copy or on-line, and be prepared to pass the requirements for Req. 1-7 at our first meeting at Beaumont. Even an old edition of the merit badge book has great info but you will need to find the current requirements on line, https://www.scoutbook.com/mobile/references/boy-scouting/merit-badges/climbing-merit-badge-requirements.asp.
-If you need help with the knots on Req. 7 you can visit this great website https://www.animatedknots.com/ . The counselors on-site will also be able to help. We lots of climbing rope, harnesses and gear to help with any questions.
-Bring water bottles, lunch and be properly dressed. When you read the merit badge requirements you'll know how to be properly dressed.
-Every Scout must bring a pair of leather palmed work gloves. You don't need the expensive belay gloves sold at the climbing gyms
