2017 Challenge Course Instructor Qualification Training
The joint Challenge Course and Climbing Instructor Training programs of the Greater St. Louis Area and the Lewis and Clark Councils were approved by the BSA in June 2013. The Challenge Course/Climbing Committees of both councils saw the opportunity of having training courses that would enable Instructors to be able to lead at any of the 3 Challenge Courses that our councils operate. When a Scouter takes their Initial Challenge Course Instructor training at either S-F or Camp Joy they then would be able to take a 1 day orientation course for the other courses.
A Wednesday night and weekend training course is required to be eligible to become a qualified leader for our Challenge Courses. GSLAC has a course at S-F Scout Ranch and Beaumont Scout Reservation, Lewis and Clark has a course at Camp Joy; different from each other but all offer the challenges that Scouts and Ventures enjoy. All programs and sites use the same policies and procedures.
On Wednesday night everyone will receive a piece of 1" tubular webbing Swami Belt, knot training, a detailed equipment list, training about equipment and what to bring for the weekend training and the Saturday night camping at the S-F Challenge Course.
