2020 Bird Study Merit Badge Virtual

Bird Study Merit Badge

The Bird Study Merit Badge will take place via a Zoom meeting.

Date:  July 28th
Time:  1:00pm - 3:00pm
Instructor: Julie King

You will be sent the Zoom link prior to the meeting. 

The Scouts will need:

For Req 2:  Print out and label the attached bird anatomy worksheet.

For Req 3: Binoculars

For Req 4:  A bird field guide--it can be borrowed or checked out from a library and they will want to use it for their observations of 20 birds.

For Req 5:.  They will need to make a field notebook with observations of 20 different species of birds.  They need to note:

     A. Date and time

     B. Location and Habitat

     C. 2 types of food the bird is likely to eat

     D. Note whether the bird is a migrant, summer, winter, or year-round resident of our area.

For Req 9: They will need to do one of the following:

     A. Build a birdbath and put it in an appropriate place OR

     B. Build a backyard sanctuary for birds by planting trees and shrubs for food and cover OR

     C.  Build a bird feeder and put it in an appropriate location.

Scouts should plan to have their videos on for the duration of the session so that Counselors can ensure their participation and engagement. Counselors have the discretion to determine if a Scout completed the requirements based on their engagement during the session
