Maryville University established the STEM Center as a central hub to support innovative science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) research, education, and outreach at the University. Since then, we have worked to build teams of researchers and educators who implement STEM education programming, provide students and educators with access to STEM resources and equipment, and facilitate creative and effective ways of STEM teaching and learning in PreK-12 and higher education classrooms and beyond. Cub Scouts will utilize these resources to gain knowledge, and advancement.

Gizmos and Gadgets Loop (Lion)

Welcome to the world of STEM exploration specially designed for Lions! In this exciting course, young learners will experience a hands-on journey to discover the properties of motion and forces. Through engaging activities, students will explore how objects move and interact with the world around them. They will experiment with everyday materials to harness the power of forces, all while fostering creativity and problem-solving skills. Get ready to have fun and build something useful as we encourage our little scientists to dream, create, and explore!

Build it up and Knock it Down, (Lion)

Calling all young adventurers! In "Build It Up, Knock It Down," our Kindergarten Lion Scouts will explore the thrilling worlds of construction and resilience. Through collaborative discussions, they will share ideas about what can be built and what can be knocked down, fostering creativity and teamwork. Lions will also engage in meaningful conversations about how they can support each other, not just physically but emotionally too, building strong bonds of friendship. Hands-on activities will see our scouts constructing imaginative structures using a variety of materials, promoting problem-solving and fine motor skills. Join us for an adventure that combines learning, fun, and character-building in every session!

Floats and Boats (Tiger)

Ahoy, Tiger Scouts! Get ready to set sail on a STEM adventure like no other! In "Floats and Boats," we will explore the exciting world of water safety, teamwork, and engineering. Scouts will dive into Scout water safety chants and learn why having a buddy is crucial before putting their knowledge to the test in fun buddy games. But that's not all! Our young sailors will identify five different types of boats, putting their newfound knowledge to practical use by building their own boat from recycled materials and seeing if it floats. Plus, safety is paramount, and our scouts will demonstrate their ability to properly put on and fasten a life jacket. Join us for an adventure filled with learning, teamwork, and water-filled fun!

Tiger-iffic Games , Challenges and Teamwork! (Tiger)

Welcome to a roaring good time Tiger Scouts! In "Tiger-iffic!" we'll embark on an exciting journey of games, challenges, and teamwork. Young scouts will explore the world of games in various forms, completing requirements that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and camaraderie.

Scouts will engage in a range of activities, from solo video games to interactive board games, fostering both independent and cooperative play. They'll test their strategic skills in problem-solving games and even participate in a friendly video game tournament. 

Along the way, they'll share their gaming expertise by offering valuable tips for newcomers to their favorite games.

But that's not all! Our creative young minds will invent their own games or modify existing ones, showcasing their inventiveness and adaptability. The course will culminate in a thrilling team game, where scouts will put their teamwork and sportsmanship to the test.
