Cub Scout STEM Day with Mad Science - Spring 2025

Who: Lions, Tigers, Wolves, Bears, & Webelos

When: Saturday, May 3, 2025

What:  With the help of Mad Science & Webster University, this program will be focused on earning specific STEM-based Adventure Belt Loops/Pins within Cub Scout advancement program!! Are you missing an Adventure Loop?? Want to get started on next rank's Adventure Loops?? The next Cub Scout STEM Day is here to save the day! Mad Scientists will guide your Cub through experiments & activities that lead to rank advancement & Adventure Loops! If you've ever experienced Mad Science, you know their EDUTAINMENT is always wild, wacky fun! And if you've never witnessed Mad Science, this is your chance to check 'em out! 

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Check-in begins at 8:30 am, no sooner)

Where:  Webster University (Webster Groves/Main Campus) 470 E. Lockwood Ave., St. Louis, MO 63119 - East Academic Building (EAB)

Fee:  $30 per Scout, $28 early bird special until Sunday, April 20th. This includes take home items and advancement cards for earning adventure belt loops. Late registrations & walk-ins cannot be accomodated. Cub Scout participants will be capped at 20 per class. First come, first served. Please be sure your regsitration is complete to reserve your spot! 

Payment:  Mastercard, VISA, and Discover. Payments and registration will only be accepted online. Registrations and cancellations will be accepted no later than Monday, April 28th. Substitutions from the Pack will be allowed.

CLASSES: 

Lion: Gizmos and Gadgets

Discover the laws of motion through hands on exploration. Can you pull a tablecloth out from under a cup and plate without them falling? Roll your cars down a ramp and find out what happens. Investigate the force of gravity. Find out why things balance and spin. Explore motion & forces, then get together to make your own useful object!

Tiger: Sky Is the Limit

Investigate stars and how we see them! Scouts will learn about astronomy through exploration of the constellations, stars, and the night sky. Scouts will discover why we see the stars as we do, why constellations have been named, and even have the opportunity to build their own constellation! Tigers will mostly complete this adventure loop, with a remaining at-home activity that parents and scouts can complete at their convenience: Requirement 1.

Wolf: Air of the Wolf
Air is everywhere! Discover how important it is to your life. Find out what makes airplanes fly. Work with the Mad Scientist to build your own paper airplane and then take it on test flights. Then we’ll try building a new airplane design and test it too. Which one will fly the farthest? Which will flight the straightest? Then we’ll make something else that flies…but it’s not a plane! Meets all requirements.

Bear: Super Science

Scouts will investigate science through hands-on experimentation. They will explore the concepts of static electricity, color-mixing, and density while earning their Super Science loop. This is bound to be a STEM-tastic time! All the requirements for this adventure loop will be completed.

Webelos: Earth Rocks

Explore the world of geology! Discover rocks and minerals. Work with your fellow scouts to classify minerals on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. Find out how we can make a crystal really quickly!” Investigate volcanoes as you build your own models and cause an eruption. Meets all requirements and additional activities towards Down and Dirty NOVA award requirement 3A.
