2026 Chainsaw Training - May 9

2026 Chainsaw Training
Saturday, May 9th
Time: 8 am - 5 pm
Winter Lodge @ Camp Warren Levis
5500 Boy Scout Lane, Godfrey, Illinois 62035
Scouting America properties rely on chain saws to help clear trails, remove deadfalls, clear timber, and stockpile wood for campfires and heating buildings. To allow for this use, specific guidelines for safety have been adapted for use at all Scouting America activities. The National Camp Accreditation Program Standards, require that any person who operates a chain saw be approved by the council designee. Chain saw operators must be at least 21 years old and meet one of the following requirements: be a professional forester with current credentials and liability insurance; be a certified arborist with credentials; have written documentation of training in chain saw techniques from either (1) a state or federally recognized chain saw training course approved by the council or (2) the Scouting America Chain Saw Basic training.
For those of you who are interested in Chainsaw Training, we have one coming up on Saturday, May 9th from 8 am - 5 pm. This chainsaw training will be at Camp Warren Levis meeting first in the Winter Lodge. Morning will be lecture and afternoon will be chainsaw operation and maintenance. This training will satisfy the NCAP standard for safe chainsaw operation.
Please bring your own chainsaw and safety gear (helmet w/ear protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps). Lunch will be provided, participants will not be able to leave camp to get lunch. Must be able to stay the entire day for training.
