2024 Boone Trails Scouts BSA Fishing Clinic

The Scouts BSA Fishing Clinic is designed to offer three merit badges for the scouts to select one from, and to complete Requirement #2 of the Complete Angler Award.  The three merit badges are Fishing, Fly-Fishing, and Fish and Wildlife Management.

 

YOU MAY ONLY REGISTER YOUR SCOUT FOR ONE MERIT BADGE.

Fishing

Merit Badge Counselor: Olin Eldridge
Capacity: 20 Scouts
Prerequisites:
Demonstrate how to tie the following knots: improved clinch knot, Palomar knot, uni knot, uni to uni knot, and arbor knot. Explain how and when each knot is used. (You will have to demonstrate in class.)
If regulations and health concerns permit, clean and cook a fish you have caught. If you are unable to catch a fish for eating, acquire a fish, clean the fish you acquired, and cook the fish you acquired.
If you have a rod and reel, please bring it.

Fly-Fishing

Merit Badge Counselor: Bill O’Shaughnessy
Capacity:10 Scouts
Time: This merit badge will have extended time ending around 4:00-5:00.
Prerequisites: 
Completing the “Fly Fishing Workbook Sheets”. 
Know the knots, Arbor, Nail, Surgeon, and Improved Clinch Knots
Know what Dry Flies, Wet Flies, Nymphs, and Streamers are, look themover! Understand their uses and what they imitate.
If you have a fly-fishing rod and reel, please bring it.

Fish and Wildlife Management

Merit Badge Counselor(s): Michael Brand and Sheri Hogland
Capacity: 20 Scouts
Time: This merit badge will be completed by 12:00
Prerequisites: 
Be prepared to discuss these questions from the workbook: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6B, 7C, and 8 prior to attending class. Completion of the workbook is optional.
Review Requirement 5. Choose any one project to complete.
You may either complete the project prior to camp or after camp. If completing prior to camp, take pictures, and be prepared to discuss the project with the group.  If you choose to complete Requirement 5 at a later time, you will contact the Merit Badge Counselor, who will then sign off the last requirement for the completion of the merit badge.

Scouts may attend with partials but they will need to let the merit badge counselors know what requirements they need and wait their turn.

 

Requirement #2 of the Complete Angler Award by helping with the Cub Scout Fishing Clinic open fishing session that will be occurring at the adjacent lakes #2, and #15 between 10:30-12:00.

Please bring a sack lunch, snacks, and a water bottle.  There will not be a water station to refill, so please bring plenty.  A hat and sunscreen is highly recommended.

Please bring with you a filled out Blue Card for the merit badge you are registered for.  None will be available at the event.
