2020 Southern Illinois 8th Annual Merit Badge University

Event Details

Community of Faith Church and Troop 140 welcome you to their Merit Badge University (MBU) Saturday, November 7th from 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM. All merit badges offered will be conducted and supervised by a BSA approved merit badge counselor. The proper attire for all scouts is Class A Uniform unless otherwise designated as part of the merit badge requirements.

The Merit Badge University cost is only $5! A MBU patch will be included as part of that fee for all participating scouts. Additional patches will be sold separately for $5 each. Lunch will be offered separately as a fundraiser for Troop 140 for $5. Additional snacks and drinks will be available for sale throughout the event.

Each merit badge session will be limited to 10-15 scouts at the discretion of the merit badge counselor and COVID rules. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration will be through the black pug system. Class size is very limited so please register early.

The primary activities will take place at the Community of Faith Church but some merit badges will be virtual. Scouts will be responsible for providing their own computer for virtual classes and are able to come to the church and sit to take the class or take the class at home. Fishing, Geology and Bird Study merit badges will be conducted at nearby locations. Personal transportation, as well as a leader to be in attendance, will be needed. Geology merit badge will visit nearby Giant City State Park. Bird Study will spend a portion of its session in Crab Orchard Wildlife Preserve. Fishing will be held at John A Logan.

We are going to be doing our best to keep everyone safe. Masks will be required to be worn at all times. We will be sanitizing classrooms, bathrooms and tables. If the weather permits we will be eating and congregating outdoors. Please dress for the weather.

Blue cards will all be provided through the Black Pug registration system or through Scoutbook for the participants. If your Troop would prefer a physically signed card please bring a blue card for your counselor to sign.
