Council Pinewood Derby - Celebrating 73 years of pinewood car racing!

Join us on the morning of Saturday, April 25th at World Wide Technology Raceway for a council wide competition and other fun.

For all Cub Scouts in the Scout Council to compete!    Don't miss this grand time!  

The Pinewood Derby is one of the highlights of a Cub Scout's year and great memories for older Scouts. This event will bring Scouts from across the council to have some fun as they race their cars to see who has the fastest one.

This event is open to ALL Cub Scouts in the Council, regardless of a Scout's placement at their home Pack's or District race.

More details on the event are found in the attachments with race rules, heat information, and design contest. 

The Race Rules are just that, rules and not suggestions.  Please review them. Cars will be inspected at check in and a pit area will be available if any modifications need to be made on the cars to make them permissable for the track.  We are using the rules established since 2024.
  
Fee is only $10 per car to enter, all spectators are free.  Please register by April 10.   Youth under 18 must be in the care of a responsible adult.

9:00 am to Noonish, Cub Scouts will compete against all Scouts regardless of rank.

After April 10 if not sooner, Scouts will be sent instructions on race day details and the time their car will race.   The first 100 Scouts will be guaranteed a commemorative patch.   

So here is what is different this year!!!  A camporee for about half the Scout districts will be going on in the inner track for the older Scouts BSA level youth.  Even if your district might not be participating, again all of our Cub Scouts are welcome to partake in the Derby and then join in on other activities going on nearby the Drivers Center in the morning.  Then when the derby is done, probably by Noon, your family can enjoy the rest of the activities till 5 p.m. on Saturday.  We encourage you to enjoy all the Saturday festivities and plan to bring a lunch. 

The other activities to check out while at the track and other fun may include program like the STEM Trailer, St. Louis Science Center, SIUE STEM Center, FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics, Odyssey of the Mind, and the Magic House.  Concessions (chips, candy, soda, will be available during the Derby event.  

Trophies (1st, 2nd, & 3rd) will be given out and to the top 20% ranked racers. 

There will also be trophies presented to the winners of the design contest -  Most Realistic, Novel Design, Patriotic Spirit, Kid Did, Classic Design, Scouting Spirit, and Judge's Special.    

Free tickets will be made to participant families to go to the June IndyCar race and September NASCAR race.  Wow Wow!  

Lastly, don't miss the chance to win a SOAP BOX DERBY CAR for your unit and compete in the June race in St. Louis.  This a $1,000 value and your unit can hold on to it for future races.   Don't miss this raffle and represent Scouting!
