2020 Back Country Leadership Skills Training
GSLAC Back Country Leadership Skills Training Course
This course is designed for the adult Scouter and experienced youth Scouts who understand the role high Adventure plays in keeping older youth involved in Scouting. This course will give you the skills and confidence to realize your vision of high adventure in your troop or crew. Your council High Adventure Training team will help you deliver the promise.
The training begins with a Friday night indoor classroom session in which we'll check gear, organize into a crew structure, and review our route. Saturday morning we will load our packs and start our overnight backpacking hike, stopping periodically to learn skills such as planning/training, managing risk, equipment/gear, physical conditioning, trail hygiene, food and nutrition, trek safety, wilderness navigation, water purification/treatment, and expedition behavior.
