Join us at S-F Scout Ranch for a unique merit badge workshop on Fish and Wildlife Management.
A fun one day class, that will help you complete requirements for merit badge. You bring your conservation project work gear, we provide the teachers and together we will work on the merit badge.
Classes:
Scouts will attend a series of presentations of Requirements 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 & 7.
Class Participation is required:
- Meaning and purposes of fish and wildlife conservation and management.
- Major problems that continue to threaten your state's fish and wildlife resources.
- Practical ways in which everyone can help with the fish and wildlife effort.
- Major fish and wildlife management practices used by managers in your state.
- Wildlife species in your state that are classified as endangered, threatened, exotic, game species, furbearers, or migratory game birds.
Field Experience:
- Design and implement a Fish or Wildlife habitat improvement project.
Note: Conservation project will be 4 hours in length and is intense in nature. Work/hiking boots, gloves, hand saws, bow saws, lopping shears, and shovels are expected to be brought to the event.
- Examine the stomach contents of three species of fish and record the findings.
- Meet with Fish & Wildlife Managers and discuss three different job descriptions within the Agency.
- Discuss Qualifications for Jobs Described.
- Discuss the areas of study required to meet the qualifications, discuss the importance of academic performance.
- Discuss the competition between applicants for Employment opportunities.
- Discuss how Scouting Outdoor & Advancement Experience can improve your position as an applicant when competeing for employment opportunities.
- Discuss how the qualities of a Scout, living the Scout Oath and Law ona daily basis, can improve your position as an applicant when competing for employment opportunities.
