National Pike IOLS - Spring 2023

This hands-on program is designed to help you master basic camp skills. You will learn how to set up camp, cook, work with ropes and woods tools, plan campfires, use a map and compass, prepare for hiking and backpacking, identify plants and animals, and practice outdoor ethics. Each outdoor session will bring to life the pages of the Scout Handbook to help you deliver the promise of Scouting to the youth in your troop.
Preparations:
Arrival by 5:00 PM. The program begins promptly at 6:15 PM.
Meals included in your course fee include the following: Friday: Cracker Barrel, Saturday: Breakfast, Lunch and light snack
At check-in, please turn in a completed BSA Personal Health and Medical Record– Parts A & B (available online; a physician's signature is not required).
Please let us know if you have any special physical or dietary restrictions that we should take into consideration.
Consult your Scout Handbook for personal gear you may need. Your troop should be able to lend you a tent or other gear you that you don't own already. Small tents/carpools preferred.
Remember your uniform, compass, flashlight, jackknife, mess kit, mug, water bottle, and camp chair. Pack for the weather.
SPECIAL COVID RULES to keep you safe: We encourage all participants to wear masks as needed for your personal safety. As Scouting is an outdoor program, we will endeavor to hold classes outside as much as possible.
