Council Climbing Weekend

Event Details

**Now increased capacity! With the addition of more instructors, all caps for climbing sessions have been moved to 45**

Council Climbing Weekend is a celebration of all things climbing! This new event takes place at Baltimore's own Broad Creek Scout Reservation, and works perfectly with those who reserve a campsite for the weekend. This event is open to Scouts BSA, Senior Program Youth, and Webelos youth and adult leaders, and is open both to weekend campers and day visitors.

Climb the Tower!: Council Climbing Weekend is the perfect opportunity to climb the 55' tall Broad Creek tower! With experienced instructors provided by the council COPE & Climbing Committee, climbers can register to attend either morning, afternoon, or early-evening 3-hour blocks on Saturday, and enjoy climbing all three faces of the tower as long as they like.

Climbing Training: For youth 16-17 and adults 18+ looking for more during climbing weekend, the COPE & Climbing Committee will be offering a Climbing Instructor Level I course all day Saturday. This course is required for any adults who would like help facilitate climbing on our climbing tower for their unit, as well as towers in neighboring Del-Mar-Va and NCAC Councils, and is a pre-requisite for Climbing Instructor Level II training. Youth 16-17 who take this training will become certified "Climbing Instructors In Training", meaning they learn the skills to help facilitate but do not count towards qualified supervision when running a tower. This training will have a pre-weekend Zoom meeting to go over skills prior to the in-person practical.

Rocks State Park: Does your unit enjoy climbing the natural way? Not far from Broad Creek is the awe-inspiring King and Queen's Seat climbing routes of Rocks State Park. Troops who bring their own equipment and qualified supervision may enjoy some extra day climbing at this beautiful location before returning back to camp.

Night Climbing! (Weekend Campers Only): One of many recent facility improvements at Broad Creek is the installation of large LED lights that illuminate the exterior of the climbing tower! Troops that hold a campsite reservation may attend this extra session for no extra charge, which will run from 7pm-9pm.
