Safety at Sea 2024

WHAT: A fun, action-packed day of hands-on exposure to Coast Guard rescue techniques and equipment.

WHO: This event is sponsored jointly by the United States Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region, United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, FOSSOM Inc., and Sea Scouts BSA. This co-ed event is open to all registered Sea Scouts and Venturers. This co-ed event is open to all registered Sea Scouts, Maritime Explorers, Venturers, and Scouts BSA members who are at least 14 years old.
Attending Adult Leaders are advised they are not to interfere with the Coast Guard program leads. Units are required to have at least 2 adult leaders to comply with Youth Protection Guidelines.
WHERE: United States Coast Guard Yard, 2401 Hawkins Point Road, Baltimore, MD 21226
PARKING: Parking will only be available for those staying for Safety at Sea. There will be designated drop off and pick up zones on the Coast Guard Yard that are available for drivers. Participants should be prepared to walk and do a modest amount of climbing. The Coast Guard vessels are not handicap accessible.
UNIFORMS: The uniform of the day for Sea Scout youth and adults will be the Official Sea Scout Uniform (aka TOSSU) as illustrated at https://seascout.org/uniforming/. Venturers and Scouts BSA participants must wear the “class A” uniform for their program. A wet program change should also be brought. Participants will be issued a t-shirt to wear at the event. The t-shirt is included in registration.
Closed-toe shoes must be worn. Flip-flops, open toe shoes, and similar footwear are not allowed. Attendees not wearing proper shoes will not be allowed to participate.
