Check-in and training begin at 8:00 a.m.

Sunday, September 27, 2026
Training concludes by 11:00 a.m.

Training Fee: $25 per participant

The fee includes Saturday lunch, dinner, an evening cracker barrel, and Sunday breakfast. Please eat breakfast before arriving on Saturday.

If you have dietary restrictions or food allergies, please email the course staff in advance so appropriate accommodations can be arranged.

Required Health Form: All participants must bring a completed Annual Health and Medical Record, Parts A and B, to the training.

Who Should Attend?

BALOO is designed for Cub Scout leaders and other registered adults who will help plan or participate in overnight Cub Scout camping activities.

At least one BALOO-trained adult must be present on every qualifying pack, Webelos den, or Arrow of Light den or patrol overnight camping event. Packs are encouraged to have several BALOO-trained leaders so trained adults are available for every camping opportunity.

Why Take BALOO?

BALOO will help you confidently plan outdoor experiences that are safe, age-appropriate, and fun for Cub Scouts and their families.

During the course, you will learn about:

  • Planning and preparing for a Cub Scout campout
  • Campsite selection, equipment, and sleeping arrangements
  • Outdoor cooking, food safety, and sanitation
  • Health, safety, and emergency preparedness
  • Campfires, ceremonies, games, and outdoor activities
  • Outdoor ethics and responsible use of natural resources
  • Creating positive camping experiences for Scouts and families

Successful outdoor experiences help Cub Scouts develop confidence, strengthen friendships, and stay excited about Scouting.

How Do I Complete BALOO?

BALOO has two required components:

  1. Online prerequisite: Complete the online BALOO modules through the BSA Learn Center at My.Scouting.org before attending the practical course.
  2. Overnight practical training: Participate in the complete 1½-day, hands-on outdoor course, including the overnight camping experience.

Both components must be completed to receive BALOO-trained status.

Come prepared to learn, camp, share ideas, and discover how to make your pack’s next outdoor adventure a great one!
