National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an immersive and wide-ranging six-day outdoor experience for Scouts BSA and Venturing youth leaders. The course will be conducted at the Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation this summer by a trained staff of youth and adult leaders from around the Northeast Illinois Council. The NYLT course centers around the concepts of what a leader must BE, KNOW, and DO. The key elements are then taught with a clear focus on HOW to apply what is learned. The skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a quest for the meaning of leadership.

The course is filled on a first-come, first-served basis with a maximum of 60 participants.  

PARENTS:  Scouts must be at least 13 years old on the first day of the course to participate.  Contact their Scoutmaster or Venturing Crew Advisor if they are interested because only Scouts approved by their Adult Leaders may attend.

UNIT LEADERS: Contact Debi Geiger or Tony Giamis for the passcode to register Scouts.

STAFF: Approved Staff will be given their registration password after their interview.

FEES:-

• $320 - Scout Early Discount Fee if paid in full by March 31, 2026
• $350* - Scout Regular Fee beginning April 1, 2026
• $140 - New Staff
• $80 - Returning Staff

*Any Scout registration fee with a balance due after March 31 will automatically be increased to $350.
