WOD Woods Weekend 2025

White Oak District
WOODS WEEKEND 2025
(Formerly Known As WEBELOS WEEKEND)
When: October 24 thru 26, 2025
What: An Outdoor Camping Extravaganza
Location: Our House, 19715 Zion Road, Brookeville, MD 20833 (Enter the field from Zion Road)
What Is WOODS WEEKEND? In a word – FUN! This is a camping and learning event for WEBELOS & AOL Scouts, one (or more) of their parents (sorry younger Scouts or siblings may NOT attend), and for Scouts BSA and Scout BSA Leaders. It is a chance to camp outdoors, learn Scout Skills, and play a few games. Scouts BSA attending the event teach skills, tell about Scouting, and run the scheduled events. This is a GREAT opportunity to learn Scout skills and for parents to meet Troop Leaders.
A parent or legal guardian must register and attend with each Webelos and Arrow of Light participant. If multiple Cub Scouts from the same family are attending, then only one parent or legal guardian is required to be at the event and camp with the Pack.
First Aid. Each Pack/Troop should come prepared to handle their own First Aid. If an injury is more than can be handled with a basic first aid kit, then the injured person should be taken to the First Aid Tent. "911" will be called by the Head First Aider if necessary, and the Event Chairman should be immediately notified. All first aid rendered at every level must be recorded in the unit and event first aid log.
Camping: You must provide all of your own camping gear, and be able to carry ALL of it from your parking spot to your designated campsite. Parking is NOT allowed within any campsite (Troop trailers are OK) – ONLY in the designated parking area. You can expect the distance to be up to 100 yards. Don’t bring more than you need. A wheelbarrow or wagon makes it easier to carry coolers and heavier camping gear. Pack for the weather. Make sure you have the proper warm clothing, rain gear, and sun block. We will have weather every day!
Prohibited Items: Do not bring: 1. Any type of fire arm or archery equipment; 2. Any Pet - NO animals of any type are allowed.
Food: Each unit is responsible for their own food. Eat before you come on Friday or bring a “bag supper”. Plan 3 good meals for Saturday. We highly recommend that Troops host their Feeder Packs for a Saturday meal. Do a simple breakfast and lunch; something bigger for supper. Plan exciting meals, but something you can let your Scouts do – get them to cook-it’s a true part of the experience. Sunday, make a nice big breakfast. We’ll try to be packed up and on the way home by NOON.
Trash: Everything you bring to camp MUST be taken home with you.
Water: You will need to DRIVE to the water outlet. Water is available from a garden hose and is good to drink. You need to bring water containers to transport the water to your campsite. Start saving one-gallon milk jugs and lids, and fill them before you leave home. A one gallon container is easy for your Scout to carry. Encourage your Scouts (and adults) to drink plenty of water every day. You need enough water to drink, cook, wash hands, clean eating gear, and put out your fires.
Fires: Campfires must be built OFF THE GROUND (DO NOT DIG HOLES), and high enough that the grass is not damaged. A 50 gallon steel drum cut in half, an old “Webber” grill, or a metal wheelbarrow pan placed sturdily on concrete blocks and filled with sand works well. Propane stoves or charcoal grills are recommended for cooking.
Latrines: A handicap latrine will be available. Males and females will use the same latrines. Teach your boys to use the urinal on the wall of the latrine, or at least raise the seat to urinate. Close the seat top after each use; keeps the smell down. Bring extra toilet paper for your unit as an emergency ration.
Hand Washing Stations: Each unit should provide a hand washing station and ensure that hands are washed frequently. Hand sanitizer is also recommended AFTER a thorough hand washing with soap.
Uniform: Wear your Scout uniform, but do not bring special items (pin on items) that you could lose. Dress for the weather!
Pack/Troop Flag: Bring it. Show your Spirit.
