Burke Lake District Fall Camporee 2026

Event Details

WHEN: October 23-25, 2026

WHERE: Gunston Hall - 10709 Gunston Road Mason Neck, Virginia 22079

Scouts and Arrow of Light Cub Scouts will have numerous chances to learn and have fun. The camporee will have the traditional events that bring us together as a district, Opening and Closing ceremonies, a Saturday night campfire and a senior patrol leader/scoutmaster “cracker barrel”.  The Space Academy program will be at the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space museum in Chantilly, Virginia at their “Air and Scare” event on Saturday, October 24, 2026.  Besides the normal exhibits at the museum, there will be numerous extra activity booths both inside and outside the museum building.  Also, many costumed characters will attend, primarily from “Star Wars” and “Star Treck”.  Admission to the museum and grounds is free, but there is a $15 fee for parking a vehicle in the parking area.

We are camping on the grounds of Gunston Hall, the historic plantation of George Mason.  The grounds include the plantation building, a museum, a visitor’s center with gift shop and outdoor gardens.  This is an outstanding time for Scouts to learn about George Mason and his contribution the Virginia Constitution and the United States Constitution.  He championed the Bill of Rights to be part of both documents.  Additionally, on Sunday morning, we will provide support for a Service Project at Gunston Hall from 8:45 till 10 AM.  Since we are camping at Gunston Hall, Scouts, Leaders, and family members can tour the historic home, museum and grounds for the reduced price of $5.  Touring the mansion is optional but strongly recommended.

Arrow of Light Scouts can camp as a Den, Pack, or a Family.  Arrow of Light units can camp on their own or partner with a Scouting America troop.  Arrow of Light Scouts can participate in all Scouting America activities.

All units will participate in a one-hour service project on Sunday morning to support Gunston Hll.  We will conduct maintenance on their grounds under the leadership of Order of the Arrow Scouts.
