Elkhorn High Adventure Base

Elkhorn High Adventure Base is located at over 7,200 feet on the Ben Delatour Scout Ranch near Red Feather Lakes, Colorado. Over 3,200 acres of Rocky Mountain Adventures are waiting for you. For your older Scouts and Venturers, the Elkhorn High Adventure Base is a true backcountry mountaineering experience.

Backpack thirty to fifty miles through the Roosevelt National Forest, Colorado State Forest and Parks, and Rawah Wilderness while learning about mountaineering skills and practices.

Snow fields in July, the Milky Way at night, mountaintop memories to last a lifetime. Anyone can put on a backpack and head off on the trail, but it takes a trained staff and dedicated leadership to make a quality program. We bring hands-on adventure to the Colorado Wilderness.

The Elkhorn High Adventure Base is one of four camps located on the Ben Delatour Scout Ranch. The program has been put together to take advantage of the magnificent location high in the Rocky Mountains of northern Colorado. Located just north of Rocky Mountain National Park, the Elkhorn High Adventure Base offers a unique experience for older Scouts to hike, camp, and climb up to 12,000 altitude in the Rocky Mountains.

At over 7,000 feet in elevation and encompassing more than 3,200 acres, BDSR serves as a perfect base camp for the Elkhorn High Adventure program. Each crew will spend five full days of high adventure activities such as backpacking, rappelling, rock climbing, black powder marksmanship, and C.O.P.E.

Mission & Goals

The mission of the Elkhorn High Adventure Base is to provide Scouts, Scouters, and Venturers a chance to graduate from the traditional Scout Camp experience and put to use the years of training and experience they have received in a physically and mentally challenging rugged wilderness setting.

The goals of the Elkhorn High Adventure Base are to create once-in-a-lifetime memories and develop a life-long love and respect for the natural environment.

2024 Sessions: (registration closes 1 week before session start)

Week 6: July 7-13, 2024 (Concurrent with BDSR Week 6)

Week 7: July 14-20, 2024 (Concurrent with BDSR Week 7)

To recieve early bird discount, complete registration and $50/person deposit must be paid by November 30th.

$100 unit non-refundable deposit until Sept. 30th.

Beginning Oct. 1, minimum $50/person non-refundable deposit at time of registration

Feb. 15th: Half of balance payment $297.50 ($50+$247.50) due.

April 15th: Full payment $545 due.

$25 late fee assessed on any registration fees not paid by April 15th.
