National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting, action-packed, week-long course designed to give youth members the leadership skills and experiences they can use in their home troops, crews, ships, and throughout their lives.Participants learn practical methods and skills that will help them become more confident and effective leaders. The course centers on the concepts of what a leader must BE, what a leader must KNOW, and what a leader must DO, with a clear focus on putting those skills into action and understanding the true meaning of leadership.

Important Enrollment Requirement

The course must have a minimum of 24 participants fully registered no later than 30 days before the course start date. If there are fewer than 24 fully registered participants at the 30-day deadline, the course WILL be canceled.

Register early! Your registration helps ensure that NYLT can be held as scheduled.

Scholarships

Scholarships may be available for in-council Scouts who need financial assistance.

General Participant Requirements

1. All NYLT participants must:
2. Be a currently registered member of a Scouting unit.
3. Have a current Annual Health and Medical Record, Parts A, B, and C.
4. Have the recommendation of their unit leader. The recommendation may be submitted by email.

Have basic camping and outdoor cooking experience.

While NYLT is not an outdoor skills course, participants should be comfortable camping and preparing meals in an outdoor environment.

Scouts BSA Requirements

Scouts BSA participants must:

1. Be at least 13 years old and within the maximum age allowed for their program registration.
2. Be a First Class Scout or higher.
3. Have completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST).

Venturer and Sea Scout Requirements

Venturers and Sea Scouts must:

1. Be at least 14 years old, or 13 years old and have completed the eighth grade, and be within the maximum age allowed for their program registration.
2. Have completed the appropriate unit-level leadership training:
3. Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews (ILSC) for Venturers, or
4. Introduction to Leadership Skills for Ships (ILSS) for Sea Scouts.

It is recommended that participants have at least one year of camping experience.

Come Prepared to Lead!

NYLT is more than a week at camp. Participants return to their units with new leadership skills, greater confidence, practical tools, and a better understanding of how to lead themselves and others.
