Cub Scout Adventure Day Missouri Department of Conservation

Runge Nature Center in Jefferson City Saturday, September 28, 2024  

  • FREE event open to all Cub Scout ranks. Scouts will have the opportunity to complete adventure requirements.
  • Scouts may attend with their den or pack or attend individually. Families are encouraged to attend. All Scouts must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Registration is required only for Archery – see below.
  • The event will focus on offering an opportunity to complete requirements for the following adventures:
  1. Outdoor Adventure – All ranks
  2. Archery Adventure – Age 7 and up
  3. Champions for Nature (Conservation) Adventure – All ranks
  • See attached grid of the adventure requirements offered. Scouts may complete as many requirements as they want. Completion of adventure requirements will not be tracked by event staff. Awards will not be provided.

Activities:

Hiking on Runge Nature Center Trails – All ranks - No registration

  • One-mile hike for Lions, Tigers, Wolves, Bears
  • Two-mile hike for Webelos
  • Self-guided – See attached map – Trails will be marked
  • All scouts should bring the six essentials for their hike – whistle, sun protection, flashlight, trail food, filled water bottle, first aid kit
  • Scouts should wear appropriate clothing – no open-toed shoes, flip flops, sandals, or crocks

Activity Stations – All ranks - No registration

  • Five activity stations located on Runge Nature Center Trails – Welcome, Champions for Nature – Resources, Champions for Nature – Threatened Species, Wildlife, Trees
  • Open 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
  • Self-guided – See attached map

Archery – Age 7 and up - Registration required

  • Four 75-minute sessions - 9:00 am, 10:30 am, 12:00 pm, and 1:30 pm
  • Scouts must arrive at Runge Nature Center archery range 10 minutes prior to start of session
  • Scouts must register in advance – participation is limited to 20 Scouts per session
  • Scouts will receive instruction on range protocols, equipment, safety, and proper shooting technique and will have the opportunity to shoot 10 arrows
  • Runge Nature Center teaches NASP range protocols and uses NASP equipment (Genesis compound bows)
  • To register a Scout, email the Scouts name, pack number, rank, emergency contact name, emergency contact phone number and the requested session start time to Darin Hackmann at dnshack@socket.net. A confirmation email will be sent back.

Special Note: Runge Nature Center is getting new windows and siding! Part of the parking lot will be unavailable. Access to parts of the Runge Nature Center building may be restricted.
