When:  Saturday, March 23rd. Gathering: 9:30, start: 10:00; lunch: noon; end time ~ 3:00 PM

Cost: $25/Scout, adults free; Registration cutoff at 20.  Age requirement of at least 13.

Dress: Class Bs and/or older clothes.  Bring a sack lunch with drink.

This badge is an elective merit badge. Scouts should have & have read the current Boy Scout Auto Maintenance Merit Badge pamphlet, which can be found at the Scout Shop or local libraries.  Any questions, please contact Rose Marie Lewis at rosemarie.lewis@uwc.edu, 920-832-2654 (work), or 920-722-5748 (Cell).  Scouts blue merit badge cards need to be properly & fully filled out.   REQUIRED WORK OUTSIDE OF WORKSHOP: Study and bring an Owners Manual from a vehicle at home. On the worksheet complete the following pre-reqs:

-2 g, h, I: purpose safety belts; State emissions & safety inspections; registering your auto

-4 a, c: manufacturers & vehicle tire specification; Wheel alignment importance to tire life

-5 a: explain how internal combustion engine operates; difference between gas & diesel engines

-7 a, b: explain how air & fuel systems work & why they are necessary; explain fuel injection

-8 a: Diagram & explain the parts of the electrical system

-9 a: Diagram the drive train and explain the different parts

-10 a, b: Explain the brake system & how it works; Difference between disc & drum brakes

-11 a: Determine value of 3 different vehicles you might buy; 1 new & 1 old & 1 either, find out requirements & costs of insurance; choice 1 vehicle and fill out operation/maintenance chart

-12: Research 3 careers in the auto industry. Pick 1 & find out about education; training, etc.
