FOR CUB SCOUT LEADERS: BALOO Highlights
BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) is the required training for Cub Scout Packs that want to go camping. This course is designed to give you the confidence and skills to plan and lead safe, fun, and meaningful outdoor adventures for Cub Scouts.

FOR SCOUTS BSA LEADERS: IOLS Essentials
IOLS (Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills) is a must for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters. This course covers the basic outdoor skills needed to help Scouts advance to First Class rank.
Participants will learn:
- Fire building and safe tool use
- Hiking and trip preparation
- Tent placement and campsite setup
- Map and compass navigation
- Knots, lashings, and outdoor cooking
- Basic first aid and other rank-related skills
IOLS ensures Troop leaders can confidently mentor Scouts through hands-on learning and skill mastery.
REQUIRED PREREQUISITES
All participants must complete the following prior to arrival:
- Safeguarding Youth Training (renewal required annually)
- Weather Hazards Training (renewal required every two years)
- IOLS participants: Scoutmaster-Specific Training (for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters only)
- BALOO participants: Online pre-course module (35 min)
