2022 NRA Rifle & Shotgun Instructor Certification

Read this information in its entirety before registering for this course.
What:
This 2022 NRA Rifle & Shotgun Instructor Course is being taught in partnership with the BSA National Council to help make sure summer camp Shooting Sports Directors have required pre-requisite instructor training to attend National Camping School. This course is considered an NCS course. The training includes NRA Basic Instructor, Rifle Instructor, and Shotgun Instructor training. Pricing is set by the National Council and is a significant savings compared to commercial courses. Other interested volunteers, not serving in a summer camp shooting sports capacity, are also welcome to register pending availability.
The course is limited to 25 participants.
LHC Registrants:
- Summer Camp Staff - Course fees will be paid by the council as part of your staff position.
- Other Registrants - After submitting your application and before receiving council approval, you will be contacted by the LHC Camping Department to collect payment. Course participation approval will not be granted until payment is received.
Non-LHC Registrants:
- After submitting your application, your home council will be notified to grant approval.
- You will need to work with your home council to determine if they will be covering course fees or if you will need to pay your home council for your participation.
When:
Friday, April 29, 2022 - 8:00 a.m. to Sunday, May 1, 2022 - 5:00 p.m.
- Participants must be in attendance for the entire course to be certified.
- Thursday early arrival is available for an additional cost.

Cost:
- $135 - Includes course materials, certification fees, meals, and lodging. Commercially, this training could cost you $500+
- $55 - Additional for Thursday evening arrival.
- $50 - Additional for registering April 8 or after.

Important Course Information:
NRA Instructor Course Pre-Requisites: All BSA shooting sports candidates MUST take a basic student class in their discipline before attending the instructor class. Therefore, before you can attend and be certified as a NRA Rifle and Shotgun instructor, you MUST already have taken and passed NRA Basic Rifle and Shotgun classes. The BSA and NRA offer these courses at discounted prices across the country or you can attend any commercial NRA Basic Rifle and Shotgun classes. Laurel Highlands Council will be hosting a Basic Rifle and Shotgun Shooting course April 22-24, 2022 at Heritage Reservation for those who need to complete this training. Further information and registration can be found at https://scoutingevent.com/527-2022NRABasic.
Once completed you will need to bring proof of completion with you to the instructor course. You will also need to bring your student materials with you to the course.
The instructor course will ask you to be able to follow a syllabus and instruct materials during the class. The materials will be sent to you directly from the NRA training counselor prior to the course. You will need to have access to use the digital files during your instructor course, so it is recommended that you bring a laptop computer or tablet with you to the course.
All participants must provide a completed BSA Health & Medical Record Parts A & B during check-in.
All firearms and ammunition will be provided. No personal firearms or ammunition are permitted. Participants may bring personal ear and eye protection if they wish. PPE will be provided.
Housing will be provided in one of Heritage Reservation's Potomac Homes. Participants must provide their own bedding, towels, toiletires, etc. The course will be a mix of indoor classroom and outdoor range training. Partcipants should come prepared for the weather.
Meals for the course are included. Special Dietary requests must be submitted to Mike Manner (mike.manner@scouting.org) no later than Friday, April 22 or they will not be able to be accomodated.
COVID-19 safety protocols will be determined based on current local, state, and national guidance and will be communicated to participants prior to the course.
