NRA Basic Rifle Course

The Aurora Sportsmens Club will hold a NRA Basic Rifle Course for juniors, (boys and girls – ages 10 through 17). This course will run for three Saturdays from 9:00 to 5:00 on April 11th, April 18th, and April 25th, 2026 at our facility in Waterman, Illinois.
This is an intense program consisting of classroom and live fire, with one-on-one instruction on the range, followed by a written exam. The majority of our students graduate, shooting at the NRA level of Sharpshooter with most on their way to achieving their Expert Qualification. Those in Scouting and similar will also be able to complete their Rifle Shooting Merit Badge or Rifle Activity Badge requirements.
There will be morning classroom sessions starting at 9am on each Saturday of the program. Students will receive coached shooting instruction on the range in the afternoon each week, or later in the year on Youth Shoot Days if needed to account for weather and schedules. Students are required to provide their own lunch, snacks, and beverages for the entire day along with their own transportation from the classroom to the range and back to the classroom to help with cleaning rifles following the afternoon shooting session. Rifle cleaning is a required part of the class as is attendance at the classroom session each Saturday.
The classroom for this course will be at the East Side Building on the ranges off of Rueff Road, about 1 mile south of US 30 in Waterman. Directions will be provided to all those that enroll.
Class fee is $60 and must be paid at the time of registration.
We have a class size limit of 20 students.
To register for the class, complete the attached registration form and mail with payment to the address at the bottom of the form. For additional information, send email to the ASC Youth Program Department at youth@aurorasc.org .
