8:50am, At the Triceratops skull in the first-floor lobby of Leonard Hall on UND's campus (81 Cornell St., Grand Forks, ND, 58202). The lobby is at the north end of the first floor.

To earn the Geology Merit Badge?

Thursday July 25th, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

How:

Scouts will follow along and assist instructors in learning about Geology!

Scouts MUST Register prior to the event.  NO on site registration accepted

If you have any scouts interested in rocks, dinosaurs, fossils, or mining (which I'm betting you do!), then please encourage them to pursue their Geology Merit Badge through this new one-day workshop offered by UND's School of Geology and Geological Engineering! Through participating in hands-on activities examining rocks and real fossils from North Dakota and beyond, scouts will learn about the dinosaurs, ice-age mammals, and other extinct lifeforms that once called North Dakota home, how oil reservoirs form and geologists find them to provide energy for the nation, and how natural processes such as plate tectonics, fossilization, and extinction operate both today and in the past. We'll also provide a tour of the Harold Hamm Geology and Geological Engineering Museum in Leonard Hall and the new fossil preparation lab in the North Dakota Geological Survey's Core Library, where a duckbilled dinosaur skeleton is currently being cleaned and stabilized for research! Registration Fee: $20 per Scout.

Cancellations/Refunds: Cancellations accepted up to 14 days before the event with a full refund. Cancellations after that date are non-refundable, unless due to extreme circumstances.
