Tops Scouting for Food

Tops Scouting for Food
The Great Falls Council, Scouting America is proud to bring back “Scouting for Food” in association with Tops Markets to benefit local food bands and food pantries. We have broadened our Good Turn for America initiative to continue to show the importance of Scouting in our community.
The 2026 campaign begins on Saturday, March 21st. Scouts can go door-to-door distributing mini-fliers, notifying the community of our campaign. On Saturday, March 28th (or a day convenient to the Unit), Scouts return to those neighborhoods to collect the bags filled with canned goods. The timing of the campaign coincides with the spirit of giving and appreciation associated with the upcoming Easter and Passover season. Units may choose to do the neighboorhood pickup and/or do a in-store collection at Tops on March 28th.
What: An area-wide food drive conducted to support agencies that provide food to those in need. The Great Falls Council conducts this food drive across Western New York, the Twin Tiers and Pennsylvania. Units may vary the timing of mini-fliers/tags out based on the needs of their area.
How: Scouts can either go throughout their community to distribute door tags and, a week later, return to collect bags filled with canned goods or collect food and other non-perishable food items at their local Tops Supermarket. Units then deliver food to Feedmore or their preferred local food pantry.
The in-store option for Scout units to participate is on March 28th. Scout units can sign up for a three-hour shift to hand out fliers to Tops patrons as they enter the store and then collect donations as they depart the store (9am-12pm or 12pm -3pm). The Scouts can then deliver the donations to either Feedmore or to the food pantry of their choice. The fliers list what Feedmore needs most: Canned soups, stews, tuna fish, meats, fruits, vegetables, and infant formula.
To sign up for a spot or to order mini-flyers please contact your Committee Chair or Unit Leader.
