The BSA Archery Rangemaster certification class teaches adults how to safely operate and manage a Cub Scout archery range. Key topics include setting up a range according to BSA safety standards, equipment maintenance (bows, arrows, stringers), proper supervision techniques, range etiquette, and instructing youth on basic archery form.
Key Topics Covered:
- Range Safety & Standards: Setting up safe shooting lines, target lines, and safety barriers.
- Archery Equipment & Maintenance: Proper care and operation of bows, arrows, arm guards, finger tabs, and quiver usage.
- Using a Bow Stringer: Practical demonstrations on safely stringing and unstringing bows.
- Range Operations & Etiquette: Managing the range, including using whistle commands and directing participants.
- Instructional Skills: Teaching participants how to properly teach Scouts basic archery stances, gap shooting (aiming technique), and the steps of shooting.
- Practice: Students will practice by following the proper shooting process (the shooting sequence or steps).
Class Details:
- Validation: Certification is typically valid for two years.
- Requirements: Participants must be at least 18 years old.
- Purpose: This training allows individuals to run archery at Cub Scout district or council-operated events.
