Saturday Briefing
Teams will be rewarded with “Klondike Gold” for skill & teamwork at the event. “Klondike Gold” will be awarded for participation in these activities. Don’t be fooled “Klondike Gold” does not come easy.
To start off this day you will be given a route map to follow. Before you begin the journey you as a Patrol will need to inspect your sled and make sure you are prepared for the trail ahead.
SOME of the things you will need to be prepared for:
RAVINE CROSSING - The bridge is out and you must make a crossing to get the sled across without getting wet.
LOST DOG - You have lost a dog from the team you must lasso a wild dog to replace the lost one
LOCATION - The team must use the map and landmarks to find locations and marked on the map, There they will recover the item left for their team. Bring (compass)
GET THE GOLD - Recover a bucket of gold from the middle of a sinking bog. Then mark the danger @ center of the bog with a tall pole.
TIE UP YOUR DOGS - Demonstrate your ability to tie knots to secure your load of gold and provisions for transport. These knots will be ones that were learned from Scout - First Class
BLACKSMITH - You never know when you may need to forge a needed item
LASHING - Lash 2 poles to make 1 long one, lash 3 poles to make a tripod. More info at the station
ON YOUR HONOR - There will be other unmanned task along the trail
PAY YOUR OWN WAY - For any Scout that wants to participate in the PAY YOUR OWN WAY Reward. They must submit a paper (@ least a small Paragraph) that he has written. On how he earned the money to pay for the Klondike Fee and his part of the food for his patrol meals. If done correctly it will meet the req. #10 for second class which is Earn an amount of money agreed upon by you and your parents, then save at least 50% of that money).
The saved money can be used to Pay their own way. Even though some of the higher ranking boys do not need this requirement I encourage all scouts to participate in this pay your own way reward. Please get this info to your scouts so they can earn their own way. They will turn this paper in to a Person at check in. It needs to be dated, neat, legible, with their name and troop # on it. Last minute scribbles will not be accepted. This info needs to get to the boys as soon as possible to give them time to earn the money needed for the 2022 Klondike and prepare their paper.
Some stations may be added we will probably have Hawks mixed with one of the stations. We would like to see all of the scouts have Totin Chip, so they can purchase knives at the trading post. We understand some of the older scouts may have lost them and a leader can vouch for them.
This certification grants a Scout the right to carry and use woods tools. The Scout must show his Scout leader, or someone designated by his leader, that he understands his responsibility to do the following:
- Read and understand woods tools use and safety rules from the Boy Scout Handbook.
- Demonstrate proper handling, care, and use of the pocket knife, ax, and saw.
- Use knife, ax, and saw as tools, not playthings.
- Respect all safety rules to protect others.
- Respect property. Cut living and dead trees only with permission and good reason.
- Subscribe to the Outdoor Code.
The Scout's "Totin' Rights" can be taken from him if he fails in his responsibility
Reminder MONEY BACK GUARANTEE
If any Scout is unsatisfied with the value of this Klondike they may turn in all of their Klondike Gold for a refund.
