Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Hunter Education Course

This format is a 10-hour classroom course that is usually held over 2-3 days. They cover firearm and hunting safety, wildlife management principles, ethics, game identification and outdoor survival. Students must successfully complete a live-fire exercise with both formats. Firearms and ammunition are provided for the live-fire exercise so students should not bring their own.

When: August 29, 2026: 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM & August 30, 2026: 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Where: Avondale Scout Reservation, Perkins Lodge, 1443 Highway 10, Clinton, LA 70722

Account Registration: All participants must register using their own individual accounts. If registering a minor, please ensure the registration is completed under the child’s personal account, not that of a parent or guardian. Firearms and Course Materials: Students are strictly prohibited from bringing firearms to the course. All necessary firearms and instructional materials will be provided on site by the instructors. Students are welcome to bring their own eye and ear protection.

Course Format: This is a comprehensive, in-person training course and is not applicable toward satisfying the field day requirement associated with the online course option.

Age Requirement: Participants must be at least 9 years of age by the final day of the course to be eligible for certification. Meals and Breaks: LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED FOR THE STUDENTS OF THE COURSE. Participants with food allergies are advised to bring their own food, snacks, beverages, and should plan accordingly.

Attendance Policy: Full attendance is mandatory. Students must remain on site for the entire duration of the course. Departures for any reason—including, but not limited to, medical appointments—will result in disqualification from course completion. Affected students will be required to register for and attend a future session in full.

Emergency Contact Information: In the event of an emergency, please ensure that the participant—whether yourself or the individual you are registering—has a designated emergency contact number on file and readily available.
